Ladania (Cistus creticus, Greek Λαδανιά or Κίστος) is an aromatic Mediterranean shrub with pink-purple flowers, growing wild on the sun-drenched slopes of Crete. Known as the "Cretan rockrose," this herb has been part of the island’s heritage for centuries—its resin (labdanum) was traditionally used in perfumery, while its leaves and stems are brewed into a fragrant herbal infusion. Hand-harvested young shoots and leaves are dried naturally in the shade to preserve their delicate, slightly astringent flavor and distinctive aroma reminiscent of Mediterranean herbs with hints of honey and incense.

Cistus creticus is valued for its high content of polyphenols and essential oils, which contribute to its rich aroma. In Greek folk tradition, the infusion was enjoyed for inner harmony, especially during colder months. The plant thrives in Crete’s pristine rocky soils, where it develops its unique flavor profile.

This product comes from Dictamus, a company specializing in Cretan herbs since 1933. Their eco-friendly practices and manual harvesting ensure premium quality while respecting the island’s natural bounty.
