Malotira (Sideritis syriaca, Greek Μαλοτήρα), also known as "Cretan mountain tea", is one of Crete's most valuable medicinal herbs. This endemic plant grows wild in the high altitudes of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains). Today it's cultivated organically in western Crete's mountainous regions. Harvesting occurs manually in July and August when the plant blooms and contains peak active compounds. Only flowering tops are carefully selected for this herbal product, then naturally shade-dried.

Malotira is prized for its delicate herbal aroma resembling a blend of mint and thyme, and for its delicious, slightly sweet flavor. Rich in flavonoids, polyphenols and essential oils, it's traditionally used both as a medicinal tea and in herbal blends.

This certified BIO product comes from the experienced Cretan company Dictamus, established in 1933. Specializing in aromatic herbs, they export worldwide while combining modern certified production with deep respect for Crete's nature and cultural heritage (see company description below).

  • Leaf Strain and serve warm, ideally with Cretan honey.
  • Leaf For calming and immune benefits, we recommend 4-5 cups daily.
  • Leaf When ill, drink every 2-3 hours.

Why whole plants? Traditional Cretan Malotira includes flowers and stems (containing active compounds). Dried plants are brittle and break naturally. Original plants measure 15-30 cm; after drying/breaking ~10-15 cm. The 1 tbsp (3-4 g) dose follows Greek traditional recipes.
